Becoming a Catholic

How do I become a Catholic?

We love to have new people joining our community! Even if in the end you don't feel called to become a Catholic, the process of learning more about being a Catholic is done in an atmosphere of trust and confidence.

The normal method of becoming a Catholic is to join the R.C.I.A. programme. R.C.I.A. stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

This programme runs in the evening once a week in the time leading up to Easter. During the Easter ceremony the candidates are either baptised or received into the community. During the lead up time there is no pressure to become a Catholic but it is a process of learning and discernment for the person involved.

These evenings can be fun as well as informative, and the candidates always seem to form a strong bond with each other as they share their journey together. People come from all walks of life - the last programme involved a lawyer, a home-maker and a hospital counsellor.

Sometimes, because of circumstances, people become Catholics by going to see the priest for personal instruction. Please contact the parish house on (07) 868-6169.
